What is Pilates?

In the 1920's Joseph Pilates developed his exercise system in Germany. Out of that system sprang the Pilates Method.
The Pilates Method consists of exercises that work the entire body by strengthening and toning muscles, improving posture, providing flexibility and balance and coordinating mind and body.
Romana Kryzanowska studied with Joseph Pilates for many years and was chosen by him and his wife Clara to carry on his work which she has done with tireless dedication by teaching Pilates around the world.
There are many schools of Pilates but the Method passed on by Joseph Pilates to Romana represents his truest teaching and she has kept the spirit of these teachings alive.
For over nine decades many people from all walks of life and of all ages have found this proven Method of exercise beneficial to supplement  any athletic endeavor or just moving forward to a healthier and happier lifestyle.
As Joe put it, " Physical fitness is the first requisite of happiness".

Fulcrum Pilates carries on the tradition of  "Joe" and Romana by applying the principles of the Pilates Method, such as , concentration, body/mind coordination, breathing, flowing movement and precision.
Learn the exercises under the eye of an experienced teacher trained in the "authentic" Pilates Method by Romana Kryzanowska and other master teachers.
Fulcrum Pilates is conveniently located near downtown Tucson and the University of Arizona. We are a small studio that focuses on the individual in a calm, safe and personal setting. The studio is fully equipped with Gratz apparatus. We offer one-on-one and small group instruction by appointment only
.





  In my opinion, Pilates is the perfect exercise for anyone looking to regain, maintain, or improve functional strength. Barbara uses a very careful graded approach to progressively increase the challenge.  After just five visits I could feel a dramatic improvement in my core endurance and control, as well as flexibility, that I haven't been able to achieve with years of "traditional exercise".  If you are looking for a safe, effective form of exercise to assist in recovery from an injury, or have a good foundation of physical fitness that you want to take to the next level, I highly recommend working with Barbara.
